As at end of 2004, there were about 19,000 designated on-street parking spaces in the territory, with parking meters provided at about 17,600 of the spaces. Following completion of the parking meter replacement project in November 2004, all the parking meters are now operated with the Octopus card.
As at end of 2004, TD operated 13 multi-storey car parks providing a total of about 7,300 parking spaces. In addition, TD operated the open-air Tsing Ma View Point Car Park and Sheung Shui Park-&-Ride Car Park, which had a total capacity of some 300 parking spaces.
The above parking services are managed by four contractors selected through public tender.
