Operation of HKeToll generally smooth

The Transport Department (TD) said today (May 8) that the operation of the HKeToll has been generally smooth since its implementation in the Tsing Sha Control Area (TSCA) (Eagle's Nest Tunnel, Sha Tin Heights Tunnel and Tai Wai Tunnel) from 5am yesterday (May 7).

The TD's Emergency Transport Co-ordination Centre has been closely monitoring the traffic situation in the TSCA. Today is the first working day after the implementation of the HKeToll and despite the unstable weather, the overall traffic flow has been smooth in general and traffic conditions during peak hours are similar as before. The TD noticed yesterday that individual motorists might not be familiar with the latest traffic arrangements at the toll plaza of the TSCA after the implementation of the HKeToll, and at times vehicles slowed down or entered the bus lane by mistake. The TD has erected signs on the same day to remind motorists. The TD has also asked the franchised bus companies to remind bus captains to pay attention to the new routes and drive in the bus lanes.

From 6.30am to 5pm today, of the total 41 047 vehicles passing through the TSCA, 3 975 (about 10 per cent) have been detected without a vehicle tag. The TD once again appeals to vehicle owners to complete the three steps for HKeToll services as soon as possible: (1) install a vehicle tag, (2) open an HKeToll account and (3) set up an automatic payment means, so as to fully enjoy the convenience of the HKeToll.
