Special traffic and transport arrangements for public procession on Sunday
The Transport Department today (March 16) reminded people that special traffic and transport arrangements would be implemented to facilitate a public procession on Sunday (March 18):
I. Temporary Traffic Arrangements
A. Road Closure
The following roads will be closed to all vehicular traffic from around 2.30pm:
(a) Gloucester Road southbound between Causeway Bay flyover and Causeway Road;
(b) Gloucester Road northbound south of Sugar Street;
(c) Sugar Street;
(d) Yee Wo Street westbound between Pennington Street and Hennessy Road;
(e) Jardine's Bazaar; and
(f) Hennessy Road westbound between Yee Wo Street and Lee Garden Road.
B. Traffic Diversion
The following traffic diversion will be implemented from around 2.30pm until the road closure is lifted:
(a) Traffic along Causeway Bay flyover southbound will be diverted to turn right onto Gloucester Road service road;
(b) Traffic along Great George Street eastbound will be diverted to turn left onto Gloucester Road northbound;
(c) Traffic along Yee Wo Street eastbound will be prohibited from turning left onto Sugar Street;
(d) Traffic along Irving Street will be diverted to turn right onto Pennington Street northbound;
(e) Traffic along Pennington Street northbound will be prohibited from turning left into Jardine's Bazaar; and
(f) Traffic along Pennington Street northbound will be diverted to turn right onto Yee Wo Street eastbound.
II. Temporary Public Transport Arrangements
A. Bus Diversion The following arrangements will be implemented from around 2.30pm until the road closure is lifted:

B. Suspension of Bus Stops
All bus stops along Gloucester Road southbound, Irving Street, Yee Wo Street westbound, Hennessy Road westbound, Queensway westbound and Queen's Road Central east of Ice House Street will be temporarily suspended from about 2.30pm until the crowd is dispersed and traffic resumes as normal.
C. Green Minibus Diversion
Green Minibus (GMB) Route 40 will be converted into circular service and diverted via Leighton Road eastbound, Hysan Avenue, Hoi Ping Road, Leighton Road westbound and Morrison Hill Road southbound from about 2.30pm until the crowd is dispersed and traffic resumes normal.
D. Suspension of Public Light Bus Stand
The public light bus stand at Sugar Street will be temporarily suspended from 2.30pm until the crowd is dispersed and traffic resumes as normal.
Appropriate traffic aids will be erected to guide motorists and notices be displayed by bus companies and green minibus operators to advise passengers of the temporary arrangements. Road closure, traffic and bus diversions will be adjusted by Police at the time depending on traffic and crowd conditions in the areas. People are advised to use public transport services and avoid driving to the affected areas. Motorists should exercise tolerance and patience in cases of traffic congestion and take heed of instruction of the Police; and watch out for the latest traffic news via media.
