This section provides some general statistics on the road traffic injury accidents and resulting casualties in Hong Kong for the past ten years. The traffic injury accident data are collected and coded by the Police, and stored in the database of the Traffic Accident Data System (TRADS), which is managed by the Road Safety and Standards Division (RSSD) of the Transport Department.
The RSSD uses these data to identify locations of accident black spots and accident trends for in-depth investigations and devising remedial measures. The TRADS also serves as an important source of information for accident analysis, formulation of road safety strategies, publicity/education programmes and on-going review of road safety legislations.
