Arrangement for cross-boundary private cars to use Shenzhen Bay Port

************************************************************

The Transport Department announced today (September 19) that private car quota holders of Lok Ma Chau, Man Kam To and Sha Tau Kok crossings could continue to use the Shenzhen Bay Port (SBP) until September 30, 2009, upon the expiry of the trial period for cross-boundary private cars to use the SBP.

"The trial period for cross-boundary private cars to use the SBP will end on September 30 this year.  To facilitate the private car quota holders of the other three land boundary crossings, an agreement was reached between the Hong Kong and Guangdong governments to allow the continuing usage of the SBP for another 12 months upon the expiry of the trial period," said a department spokesman.

Private car quota holders of the other three land boundary crossings may continue to use the SBP from October 1, 2008, to September 30, 2009, with their valid closed road permits and the approval letters issued by the department.

The department spokesman reminded quota holders of the other three land boundary crossings that they should submit applications for permanent switching to the Guangdong Public Security Bureau and the Transport Department on or before the application deadline on September 30, 2008, if they have a regular need to use the SBP.

"The Transport Department will send letters to the private car quota holders of Lok Ma Chau, Man Kam To and Sha Tau Kok crossings to inform them of the detailed arrangements shortly," the spokesman added.
