Special traffic and transport arrangements for Harbour Extravaganza fireworks display

The Transport Department today (June 29) reminded people that a series of temporary traffic and transport arrangements would be implemented to facilitate the Harbour Extravaganza fireworks display at 8pm on Sunday (July 1).

     The special traffic arrangements include:

     On Hong Kong Island, temporary road closures will be implemented in phases starting from 6.30pm in the Peak, Central, Wan Chai North and Wan Chai South. The roads will be reopened when Police determine that conditions are safe.

     In Kowloon, some sections of road in Tsim Sha Tsui and Jordan will be closed or subject to traffic diversions in five phases starting from 5pm.

     The special arrangements in public transport will be as follows:

A. Mass Transit Railway Services:

     Train service will be strengthened between 6pm and 10.30pm.  Trains for Island Line, Tsuen Wan Line, Kwun Tong Line and Tseung Kwan O Line will run every three minutes.  Trains for the Tung Chung Line between Hong Kong and Tsing Yi will run every five minutes.  


B. Kowloon-Canton Railway Services:

     From 8.45pm to 10.15pm, trains from East Tsim Sha Tsui Station will be strengthened to 3.3-minutes headway.  From 6pm to 10.45pm, trains for Ma On Shan Rail will run every four minutes.  

C. Hong Kong Tramways Services:

     Normal holiday services will be operated and service frequency will be strengthened to meet passenger demand if necessary.

D. Peak Tram Services:

     Service frequency will be strengthened to eight-minute headway to meet passenger demand.

E. Central-mid-Level Escalator:

     The service of Central to Mid-levels Escalator and Walkway System on July 1 will be extended to 2am the next day.

F. Cross-boundary Coach Services:

     The terminating point of the Cross Boundary Coach Service between Wan Chai and Huanggang at the Wan Chai Ferry Bus Terminus will be suspended from 6.30pm to 10.30pm.  During the above period, the terminating point will be temporarily relocated to Hennessy Road eastbound under the O'Brien Road footbridge.

G. Bus Services:

     Suspension and relocation of bus termini/stops, route diversion and enhancement of service will be implemented by bus companies.

H. Public Light Bus (Scheduled) Services:

     Some green minibus stands will be suspended or relocated. Route diversion will also be implemented.

I. Ferry Services:

     Ferry companies will suspend some ferry services, cancel some sailings or strengthen and alter some sailings.

     People who plan to go to the affected areas are advised to use public transport. In case of traffic congestion, motorists are urged to exercise tolerance and patience, and take heed of instructions of the Police on site. They should also listen to the radio broadcasts for the latest traffic news.
