As at the end of 2022, there were about 36,380 designated on-street parking spaces in the territory, with parking meters provided at about 19,270 of these parking spaces.

As for the 10 multi-storey car parks operated by the Transport Department (TD), a total of about 4,000 parking spaces for private cars / vans and about 600 parking spaces for motor cycles were provided. The TD also operated one open-air car park for coaches. On the other hand, the TD has implemented a Park-and-Ride Scheme at the Po Shek Wu Estate Public Car Park near MTR Sheung Shui Station since 1 August 2018 and offered concessionary parking fee for motorists interchanging for railway.

The above-mentioned metered parking spaces and car parks were managed by four contractors selected through public tenders.
