Traffic Accidents

This section provides some general statistics on the road traffic injury accidents and resulting casualties in Hong Kong for the past 10 years. The traffic injury accident data are collected and coded by the Police, and stored in the database in the Transport Information System of the Transport Department.

The Road Safety and Standards Division of the Transport Department uses these data to identify locations of accident black spots and accident trends for in-depth investigations and devising preventive and remedial measures. The data also serves as an important source of information for formulation of road safety strategies, publicity/education programmes and on-going review of road safety legislations.
