Transport Advisory Committee

The role of the Transport Advisory Committee is to advise the Chief Executive in Council on broad issues of transport policy and major transport-related proposals to facilitate the continuous development of Hong Kong. The Committee comprises a chairman and 17 members including three Government officials. The Committee also supervises the operation of the Transport Complaints Unit, which is responsible for receiving and handling complaints and suggestions from the public on transport and traffic matters.

The Committee holds regular meetings. Some of the major issues considered by the Committee in 2014 include Railway Development Strategy 2014 and the way forward, the work plan for the Public Transport Strategy Study, a fare increase application from the Kowloon Motor Bus Company (1933) Limited, new franchises for the bus networks of Citybus Limited (Franchise for Hong Kong Island and Cross-Harbour Bus Network) and New Lantao Bus Company (1973) Limited, and maintenance works on public road pavements in Hong Kong, etc. Moreover, upon the invitation of the Secretary for Transport and Housing in March 2014, TAC conducted a nine-month study to identify various factors contributing to road traffic congestion in Hong Kong and to put forward practicable recommendations to the Government to tackle road traffic congestion at territorial level. In the report submitted to the Government in end 2014, TAC recommended a host of measures to alleviate road traffic congestion. The Government agrees in principle with these proposed measures and plans to take them forward in phases (with modifications and supplementary measures as appropriate).
