In connection with the commissioning of Tseung Kwan O – Lam Tin Tunnel, the Government has waived the toll of Tseung Kwan O ("TKO") Tunnel since midnight on 11 December 2022. Motorists can drive through the toll plaza without stopping and paying toll.
Background
As announced by the Chief Executive in Policy Address 2019, the tolls of Tseung Kwan O Tunnel will be waived upon the commissioning of the new Tseung Kwan O – Lam Tin Tunnel in order to reduce the cost incurred by the public, public transport operators and transport trades for daily commuting to and from Tseung Kwan O Tunnel.
Traffic arrangement after implementation of toll waiver
To facilitate implementation of Tseung Kwan O Tunnel Toll Waiver, temporary traffic lanes have been set up in the vicinity of the original Tseung Kwan O Tunnel Toll Plaza and the existing speed limit of 50km/h will be maintained. Appropriate traffic signs and road markings have been set up on site to guide motorists to drive through the original Tseung Kwan O Tunnel Toll Plaza without stopping and paying tolls. Affected motorists are advised to pay attention to on-site situation and drive with utmost care and patience. Road works will continue to be carried out in the vicinity of the original Tseung Kwan O Tunnel Toll Plaza (including removal of original toll collection facilities and the toll plaza canopy etc.). Temporary traffic measures will be adjusted in phases in accordance with the required works areas. Adequate traffic lanes will be reserved for vehicles to drive through the original toll plaza. Upon the completion of entire road works project, three traffic lanes will be set up at the eastbound (Tseung Kwan O bound) and westbound (Kowloon bound) of the original Tseung Kwan O Tunnel Toll Plaza respectively. For traffic arrangements at the original Tseung Kwan O Tunnel Toll Plaza after the completion of road works, please refer to Figure 1.
