Electric trams have been operating on Hong Kong Island since 1904, The Hongkong Tramways Limited operates seven routes on 13 kilometres of double track along the northern shore of Hong Kong Island between Kennedy Town and Shau Kei Wan, and about three kilometers of single track around Happy Valley.

The company's 165 passenger trams, make up the world's "largest double-decker tram fleet in service". The trams recorded an average of about 134,000 passenger trips daily in 2023. Fares were $3.0 for person aged 12 or above , $1.5 for children aged 3 to 11 and $1.3 for elderly aged 65 or above.
