Pedestrian Schemes for Central

Central is the core business district of Hong Kong. Queen's Road Central, Des Voeux Road Central and their adjoining streets are some of the major pedestrian corridors in the district. In order to improve the environment and safety for pedestrians, Transport Department has implemented pedestrian schemes in the more crowded parts of these pedestrian corridors.

(1) Full-time Pedestrian Street

Theatre Lane (access to private car park is restricted to vehicles with permits only) July 2001
Chiu Lung Street (only service vehicles are allowed during the period from 12 midnight to 12 noon) October 2001

(2) Part-time Pedestrian Street

  • D'Aguilar Street (between Wyndham Street and Wellington Street)
  • Lan Kwai Fong (vehicular access to Lan Kwai Fong is restricted daily from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m)
  • Wo On Lane
May 2002 From 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and General Holidays
  • Sai Yuen Lane
2011 From 4 p.m. to 10 a.m. daily
  • Chater Road (between Pedder Street and Jackson Road)
  • Ice House Street (between Des Voeux Road Central and Connaught Road Central)
 - From 7 a.m. to 12 midnight on General Holidays

(3) Traffic Calming Street

  • The northern footpath at Queen's Road Central (between Pedder Street and Pottinger Street)
  • Elgin Street
  • Peel Street (between Staunton Street and Caine Road)
  • Staunton Street
