"Hong Kong eRouting" mobile application launched (with photos)
The Transport Department (TD) announced today (March 26) that the free smartphone application "Hong Kong eRouting" has been launched. The public may now make use of the application for point-to-point driving route service as well as obtaining real-time traffic information for well-founded pre-trip planning anytime and anywhere.
For the convenience of users, "Hong Kong eRouting" allows multiple input methods: map-based, text, categorised locations, current location and bookmarks. It also provides for selectable route choice preference which includes the shortest travel time, the shortest travel distance or the lowest toll (using private car fares for comparison) to facilitate route searching.
Search results are displayed on a map, with detailed route information, the estimated travel time, the distance and road tolls. Real-time traffic information, including CCTV snapshots, special traffic/transport arrangements and special traffic news along the route are also provided on the same interface. Users may store the most used routes and locations for later retrieval.
Users can access a wealth of real-time traffic information on all major routes through "Hong Kong eRouting" in one go, including the road situation and journey time displayed on speed map panels, the cross-harbour journey time, traffic speed maps and CCTV snapshots. Other useful information, such as locations of petrol stations, no-stopping restriction zones and on-street parking spaces, is also obtainable through the service.
The "Hong Kong eRouting" iPhone and Android phone versions are now available for free download. Members of the public may search for "HK eRouting" in the iPhone App Store or Google Play or just scan the related Quick Response (QR) Code on the TD's website (www.td.gov.hk) for direct download. The iPad and Android tablet versions of the service are planned for launching in mid-2013.
For enquiries or comments on the service, please call 1823 (Tel: 1823) or email to TD direct (tdenq@td.gov.hk).
